Psychology in Action is a student-led club at Addis Ababa University, dedicated to applying psychological knowledge to real-world issues. We engage in educational programs and community service to foster psychological understanding, and create positive societal change.

Our History

The club was established at AAU as a university club in 2008, or 2002 E.C by volunteer psychology B.A. Degree students at that time. According to the founders, their reason for establishing the club was their frustration on the theory focused nature of under graduate psychology education. And the name Psychology in Action indicates the club’s main goal in the start which was using psychological knowledge in solving real life problems. Since its establishment the club has been engaged in several campus based and non-campus-based activities. Main activities included Psych talk, psych info magazine, Aflagat radio, volunteer services, blood donation, panel discussions and others. More than 25 students participated each year regularly from different departments but mainly from school of psychology. Currently the club is growing and expanding its reach with several interesting and educable activities and the number of member students already tripled. And the club was ranked among the top three AAU clubs.

Mission
The mission of the club is disseminating psychological knowledge to the campus community by creating an atmosphere to discuss psychological issues and help increase the general psychological know how of member students by creating an atmosphere to discuss psychological issues.

Vision

The vision of the club is to see AAU campus students using psychology and its applications in their day to day lives and for the betterment of their country men and women.

Goal

The goal of the club to engage member students in professional, academic and community service activities employing psychological principles so as to promote psychology to the campus community and enhance their academic and social sense of responsibility, and practical commitment towards the betterment of society.

The Psychology in Action Resource Center offers 14 computers, Wi-Fi, and a selection of psychology books for students. Serving as the club’s office, it supports activities, events, and projects related to psychological research and community service. It’s a space for academic work, planning, and collaboration.
